Church History
The Pleasant Hill Baptist Church was organized in 1916 by the late Reverened L.L. Ambler, under the name of the New Zion Baptist Church. In December of 1916 some difficulties occurred and the church was disbanded. In 1917 a few former memembers reorganized and gave the church its present name "Pleasant Hill Baptist Church" under the leadership of Bishop Wright. Since 1917 the church had several locations, "The Brick", "The Hill". In September 1929 Reverened D.V. Martin was called to pastor. And in June of 1950 the church was relocated to Pickett street. And in 1959 it moved to its present location.Pastor Martin served for thirty-eight years. In 1969 Reverened Benjamin M White,joined the Pleasant Hill family. He was known as a caring Shepherd, a big hearted leader and an anointed servant of the Master. He retired in 1991 from pastoring but continued to preach and teach the gospel until his labor was rewarded in 1996. Pastor White merely passed the torch to the next shepard of Pleasant Hill. Pastor David Lamar, an outstanding preacher and fatihful man of God. The church has increased existing ministires and created much needed ones. To God be the glory for the things he has done and will do for us. |
